4 Ways to Make the Most Out of Your Small Living Room

It has become a big thing to live in small homes as people are choosing to prioritize travel and unique experiences over more living space. With small homes comes small, awkward living rooms that can be hard to live in if you do not decorate strategically. Believe it or not, there are ways to decorate your living room to make it feel more spacious and less like Patrick’s home under a rock in Bikini Bottom. No matter how small your space is, you can still make it look stylish and more spacious than it is.

1. Make the most out of your white walls

Yes, white can be a boring, neutral color that you instantly want to change in your living room but think twice before you change it. As seen in my other posts about colors (and if you haven’t seen it check it out here), white can be a calming color which is perfect for your living room vibe. You can even make your living room more upscale by pairing the white walls with white furniture (sounds weird, but it looks amazing). The all-white look in your living room can make it look more spacious and open. Next, you can add textures, accent colors, or green to add personality to the space while keeping it simple.

2. Embrace your awkward walls

Many big city lofts and apartments come with an awkward wall that makes the room feel completely distorted and makes it hard to use the floor space near it. But I say that you make the most out of the awkward wall and maybe it will grow on you. One way to do that is by making it an art wall and making it the focal point of the room, instead of the enemy. You can add a fun textured wallpaper that will add personality to the room; pick your favorite design and simply stick it on the wall. On top of the wallpaper, you can add mirrors, picture frames, wall planters or anything that will add to the fun, creative wall. I highly recommend adding mirrors as it will reflect the natural light from the outdoors and will also make the room feel double the size. 3. Find the Perfect Sofa

With a small, narrow living room and an awkward wall it can be hard to find furniture that fits in the space. Obviously, one of the most important things for a living room is finding the perfect sofa. You want a sofa that is comfortable, stylish, but also one that doesn’t take up unnecessary space in your already tight quarters. For a small, narrow space look for a long sectional or sofa that will perfectly fit against the wall and make the most out of the space. You might want to consider getting a sofa with clean, straight lines so that your space does not feel cluttered. Check out ZUO’s modern sectionals and sofas for ideas.

4. Mix it up… Add Textiles and Plants

Adding modern furniture is highly recommended because it will allow for those clean lines that will make your living room feel more spacious, but you can add layers of textiles to your furniture to make your living room feel cozier. Textiles can add style to any space and make it feel more unique. You may not think that your vintage textiles will look good with your modern sofa but trust me, it will look amazing. Right now, is the time to mix and match. Adding plants to your living room can also add to the calmness of the space and they also serve as great décor. In addition (I know it goes against the all-white look) but adding accents of bright colors can also add a pop to any space and make it livelier (Just don’t overdo it). Strategically add these layers so that your space is cozy, stylish, and spacious all in one.

Follow these few tips and your living room will look more spacious and stylish than you ever thought it could!
